 Polytetrafluourethylene (PTFE)
Thermoplastic polymer with high crystallinic portion, known e. g. underthe trade name TeflonÒ. Extreme chemical stability, is only decomposed bydissolved or molten alkaline metals. Thermally stable up to at least400°C, high sliding ability, very low surface energy (18 mN/m), thereforehydrophobic and oleophobic effect, applied as antisticking coating. Lowhardness, not transparent, very low refractive index, use in optical datatransfer. PTFE surfaces can be treated to become adherent by hydrogenplasma. This is accomplished by a structuring (roughening) of the surfaceand partial destruction (reduction) of the C-F bonds.
